    • Hij was soldaat tijdens de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog. Hij diende bij de 112de New York Infanterie. Tijdens de strijd om Cold Harbor, Virginia raakte hij gewond aan zijn arm. Op 27 juni 1864 werd hij gepromoveerd tot korporaal. Vervolgens werd hij op 6 januari 1865 overgeplaatst naar het Reserve Corps. Rond 1918 verhuisden hij en zijn familie naar Portland, Oregon.
