    Notes 
    • Hij emigreert in 1856 met zijn kinderen naar Amerika. Hij komt terecht op het schip de Ocean Home, dat na een aanvaring met een ander schip in Het Kanaal vergaat. Er zijn maar 10 overlevenden, waaronder Harmen Jan. Zijn kinderen hebben de ramp niet overleefd. Harmen Jan keert terug naar Winterswijk, waar hij later hertrouwt.
